Plants with hysteranthous leaves, solitary, inflorescence up to 150 mm high. Tuber reniform, oblong or irregularly-shaped, 35 mm long and 25 mm wide, skin light brown, interior deep pink; growing point basal with a lateral groove. Old leaf sheaths up to 100 mm long, 8 mm diameter, brown, membranous to fibrous, becoming bristly at ground level. Leaf solitary, erect, glabrous; contemporary leaf sheath terete, up to 35 mm long, less than 1 mm diameter, light green to reddish-brown, shiny, viscid; lamina elliptic to broadly ovate, apex apiculate, retrorse, up to 55 mm long and 36 mm wide, both surfaces darkish green, somewhat shiny, coriaceous and rugose due to numerous prominent veins; margin smooth, red, viscid. Peduncular bract exserted up to 8 mm, thin, membranous, glabrous, light brown, sheathing except the top 3 mm, apex attenuate, sometimes hidden by the sheathing remains of the dead leaf. Peduncle up to 140 mm long, very wiry, glaucous. Raceme lax, up to 35 mm long, with 6-15 flowers. Bracts triangular, somewhat saccate, up to 1 mm long or minute and scarcely visible, membranous. Pedicels up to 20 mm long, usually nearer 6 mm, wiry, erecto-patent, arcuate. Flowers bulbous or urceolate, scarcely opening. Tepals dimorphic, very pale green with a darker green midnerve, covered with faint red striations, outer tepals suberect, elliptic narrowing to the pinched-in apex, 4.5-6.0 mm long and up to 1.8 mm wide, the inner erect, spathulate with a pinched-in, fimbriate apex, 4.5 mm long and 2.3 mm wide. Filaments sub-equal, white, outer adnate to the base of the tepals, ovate to lanceolate, apiculate, 1 mm long and 1.3 mm wide; inner adnate nearly 1 mm up the tepals, 1 mm long and wide. Ovary globose to ovoid, very pale green. Style cylindrical, 1.3 mm long, white.
