Plant with hysteranthous leaves, inflorescence up to 230 mm high. Tuber simple or sometimes multiple, globose to sub-globose, up to 25 mm long and 30 mm wide; skin dark brown, rough, tuberculate, interior deep pink; growing point apical, more than one per tuber, with apparently only one leaf per growing point but sometimes two inflorescences, one after the other. Old leaf sheaths up to 50 mm long, 2 mm diameter,light chestnut brown becoming very dark on the outside, membranous to fibrous. Leaf solitary, erecto-patent; contemporary leaf sheath exserted up to 7 mm, 1 mm diameter, channelled, green; lamina elliptic, apex acute, up to 45 mm long and 18 mm wide, the old brown leaves persisting through the summer and after new green leaves have formed, green both surfaces, glabrous, with conspicuous close parallel lines giving a rugose effect. Peduncular bract not exserted above ground and largely hidden by the sheath of the old leaf, reddish or membranous, about 3 mm non-sheathing. Peduncle up to 160 mm, wiry, about 1 mm diameter. Raceme lax up to 100 mm long and 40 mm wide, somewhat flexuose, sometimes secund, with up to 17 flowers. Bracts broadly triangular, up to 2 mm long, brown, almost surrounding the pedicel. Pedicels 20 mm long, erecto-patent, arcuate. Flowers spreading to recurved, up to 12 mm diameter. Tepals equal to sub-equal, ligulate, 5-6 mm long and 2.0-2.5 mm wide, bright yellow with a dark midnerve, overlaid with red streaking which is broader on the outer tepals. Filaments filiform, apiculate, 3 mm long, yellow; anthers small, yellow, dorsi fixed. Ovary ovoid, 2 mm long and 1 mm wide, yellow. Style cylindrical 1.3 mm long, yellow.
