Plant with hysteranthous leaves, but some leaves and flowers appear at the same time from different growing points, clump forming, inflorescence up to 500 mm high. Tuber irregularly-shaped, comparatively small, with numerous simple or branched, finger-like rhizomes, up to 100 mm long and 8 mm diameter; skin thin, light brown, interior white; growing points lateral, and at the ends of rhizomes. Old leaf sheaths up to 100 mm long, 3-4 mm diameter, light chestnut brown becoming greyish with age, membranous. Leaf held horizontally to suberect about 50 mm above ground level, several of various sizes together; contemporary leaf sheath exserted 40-50 mm, 1.0-2.5 mm wide, purplish near ground level becoming pale green above, glabrous or more rarely with scattered long spreading hairs; lamina broadly ovate-cordate, up to 50 mm from leaf sheath insertion to apex and 70 mm base of lobes to apex and 66 mm wide, dark green on both surfaces, with a whitish sheen on the adaxial side, glabrous, somewhat coriaceous. Peduncular bract exserted 25-38 mm long, the lower 20-30mm sheathing, purplish-green, glabrous; the non-sheathing part ovate, mucronate, 8 mm long and 8 mm wide, green glabrous. Peduncle about 400 mm long, 2 mm diameter, glaucous green. Raceme subspicate, 70-160 mm long, 15 mm wide, with up to 45 flowers. Bracts triangular, somewhat saccate, 1 mm long, colourless with a faint brown midnerve, membranous. Pedicels up to 3 mm long, patent, pale green. Flowers cup-shaped, about 8 mm diameter. Tepals sub-equal, white with a green midnerve; outer half-spreading, lanceolate, 5.0-5.5 mm long, 2.5 mm wide; inner erect and curved round the stamens, broadly lanceolate, somewhat cucullate, 5 mm long, 3 mm wide, upper margin irregularly serrate. Filaments erect around the ovary, equal to sub-equal, adnate about 1 mm up from the base of the tepals, broadly oblanceolate or obovate apiculate, white, 1.8 mm long, 1.5 mm wide near the base; anthers 0.8 mm long, yellow. Ovary ovoid, 1.5 mm long, 1.5-1.8 mm wide, green. Style cylindrical, 1.5 mm long, white. Copious nectar is produced at the base of the ovary.
