Plants with hysteranthous leaves, solitary, inflorescence up to 380 mm high. Tuber simple, pyriform when young, becoming irregular in shape, mostly horizontal, 115 mm long, 80 mm wide; skin greyish-brown, tough and tending to peel off, interior deep maroon red with scattered darker vesicles; growing point basal to lateral. Old leaf sheaths 70 mm long and 10-15 mm diameter, membranous, very dry and brittle, outer layers greyish-brown, inner lighter brown. Leaf solitary, sub-erect; contemporary leaf sheath exserted up to 20 mm, up to 5 mm wide at the base, broadening near ground level to 12 mm at the junction with the lamina, channelled, reddish-brown, covered with soft white, curly and matted, woolly hairs; lamina broadly ovate to orbicular-cordate, up to 130 mm from apex to depression and 130 mm wide, apiculate, fleshy, adaxial surface dull green, slightly rugose, glabrous to sparsely hairy, abaxial surface reddish-green, sparsely to densely covered with soft, white, woolly hairs, edges becoming recurved when mature. Peduncular bract seldom seen above ground, if exserted broadly ovate, about 3 mm long and 4 mm wide, green, glabrous to pubescent. Peduncle up to 380 mm long, 2.5 mm diameter at the base, glaucous green. Raceme lax, up to 270 mm long and 70 mm wide, with up to 50 flowers. Bracts triangular attenuate, 2.0-2.5 mm long, membranous, white with a brown midnerve. Pedicels erecto-patent, arcuate, lowest up to 40 mm long. Flowers cup-shaped to triangular, up to 12 mm diameter. Tepals dimorphic, creamy-yellow with a dark olive green midnerve and red streaking over most of the surface; outer elliptic, attenuate, 5 mm long and 2.8 mm wide, inner spathulate with a cucullate, denticulate and pinched-in apex, 5.5-6.0 mm long and 3mm wide. Filaments adnate to the base of the tepals for about 1 mm, dimorphic, whitish; outer with a broad base narrowing abruptly to a triangular free part 1.5 mm long and 1.3 mm wide at the base; inner slightly narrower at the extreme base only, 2 mm long, less than 1 mm wide at the base; anthers pale yellow or turquoise. Ovary globose to ovoid, 1.8 mm long and wide, green. Style cylindrical 1.5 mm long, white. Copious nectar is produced at the base of the filaments.
