Plants with hysteranthous leaves, solitary, inflorescence up to 400 mm high. Tuber irregularly-shaped, tuberculate, up to 80 mm long and 50 mm wide, occasionally with thick stolons 60 mm long and 6 mm diameter; skin brown, interior deep pink; growing point basal to lateral. Old leaf sheaths up to 120 mm long, 10 mm diameter, membranous, silvery brown. Leaf solitary, erect; contemporary leaf sheath exserted up to 40 mm, 2 mm diameter, channelled, glabrous or with short straight hairs, reddish-green; lamina lanceolate up to 160 mm long and 48 mm wide, apiculate, glaucous, sometimes tinged red on the abaxial surface, glabrous or with scattered short white hairs on both surfaces, coriaceous; margin somewhat crisped, red-rimmed, sometimes involute; conspicuous parallel veins show especially in the dried state. Peduncular bract barely exserted; reddish-brown, membranous. Peduncle 350 mm long, 1.5 mm diameter, bright green, glabrous. Raceme 180 mm long, either sub-spicate and maybe secund or lax, with up to 50 flowers. Bracts triangular, attenuate 2 mm long, membranous with a brown midnerve. Pedicels either about 3 mm or up to 30 mm long, erecto-patent, arcuate. Flowers triangular in outline, sub-sessile or pedicellate, up to 12 mm in diameter. Tepals dimorphic, white with dark green midnerve overlaid with red streaking; outer tepals half spreading, apex retrorse, elliptic with attenuate twisted apex, up to 6 mm long, 2.5 mm wide, inner erect, broadly spathulate with a crisped, fimbriate, pinched-in apex, 5 mm long and 3 mm wide. Filaments adnate to the base of the tepals, broadly lanceolate, arched; outer 1.5 mm long and wide, inner 2 mm long and 1.3 mm wide; anthers pale green. Ovary globose, 1.5 mm long and wide, green. Style cylindrical, 1.3-1.5 mm long, white.
