Plants with hysteranthous leaves, solitary, inflorescence up to 300 mm high. Tuber simple or occasionally with stolons, pyriform to irregular in shape, up to 35 mm long, 20 mm wide, stolons up to 40 mm long and 4 mm diameter; skin light brown, interior pale to deep pink; growing point basal to lateral with a groove for the shoot. Old leaf sheaths up to 70 mm long and 7 mm diameter, membranous at the base becoming hard and bristly at ground level. Leaf solitary, erect; contemporary leaf sheath exserted up to 50 mm, 1 mm diameter, wiry, reddish-brown at the base becoming bright green above, channelled near the lamina, glabrous to sparsely covered with wavy hairs; lamina linear, cuneate, acuminate, up to 100 mm long, 9 mm wide, green on both surfaces, somewhat coriaceous, conspicuously close-veined, glabrous; margin often involute and shortly ciliate. Peduncular bract exserted up to 5 mm, sheathing, apex acute, retrorse, ·fleshy, whitish with red spots. Peduncle up to 220 mm long, 1 mm diameter, reddish-green sometimes sparsely hairy at the base. Raceme lax, up to 120 mm long, 50 mm wide, with up to 20 flowers. Bracts triangular, 1 mm long, membranous with a brown midnerve, saccate or somewhat spurred. Pedicels lower up to 45 mm long, arcuate, erecto-patent. Flowers triangular in outline, up to 12 mm in diameter. Tepals dimorphic, white with a dark green midnerve overlaid with red streaking; outer tepals spreading, recurved at the apex, broadly elliptic, 5 mm long and 2 mm wide, inner erect with recurved apex, broadly spathulate, 4.5 mm long and 2.5 mm wide, with crisped, fimbriate and pinched-in apices. Filaments subequal, adnate to the base of the tepals, broadly ovate, inner slightly narrower, white or bright yellow-orange; anthers green. Ovary globose, 1.5 mm long and wide, green with dark spotting at the sides of the locule margins. Style cylindrical, 1.5 mm long, white.
