Plants with hysteranthous leaves, solitary or clump forming, inflorescence up to 240 mm high. Tuber simple or multiple with several growing points, shape variable, pyriform to roundish or oval, vertical or horizontal, up to 55 mm long and 30 mm wide but usually smaller; outer skin light brown, rough, interior white or pale to dark pink; growing point basal or lateral. Old leaf sheaths 20-90 mm long, up to 12 mm wide, membranous to fibrous, inner younger ones reddish-brown becoming silvery-grey on the outside. Leaf solitary, suberect to erect; contemporary leaf sheath exserted up to 40 mm, 1-2 mm diameter, green to maroon red, usually pubescent but hairs variable, short and straight or longer and curly; lamina erect, broadly ovate cordate to elliptic or narrowly lanceolate, acute, 25-100 mm long, up to 60 mm wide, bright green, often purplishred on the underside, sometimes almost glabrous but both surfaces usually covered with fme white hairs, variable in length, often densely tomentose. Peduncular bract exserted up to 8 mm, usually completely hidden by old leaf sheaths, white to pinkish-red, membranous, apex acute, retrorse, involute, glabrous or sparsely tomentose. Peduncle erect, up to 180 mm long, 11.5 mm diameter, reddish at the base becoming green above, occasionally covered at the base with minute hairs. Raceme lax, up to 150 mm long and 28 mm wide, with 15-45 flowers. Bracts triangular, sometimes slightly saccate, 1 mm long, semi-amplexicaul, membranous, reddish-brown. Pedicels up to 20 mm long, arcuate or erecto-patent, similar in colour to the peduncle. Flowers campanulate to spreading, the tips of tepals becoming recurved in mid-afternoon, up to 14 mm diameter. Tepals sub-equal, narrowly elliptic to lanceolate, apex slightly cucullate, 6-10 mm long and 2-3 mm wide, the outer slightly narrower, white with a pale green midnerve and faint red streaking on the underside. Filaments erect, equal, adnate to the base of the tepals, filiform, up to 6 mm long, less than 1 mm wide, white; anthers yellow or pale mauve. Ovary globose, 2-3 mm long and wide, green. Style cylindrical, 3-4 mm long, white.
