Plants with hysteranthous leaves, solitary, inflorescence up to 350 mm high. Tuber pyriform or sub-globose, up to 35 mm long and 18 mm wide; skin pale brown, internally white; growing point lateral. Old leaf sheaths up to 200 mm long and 5 mm diameter, membranous to fibrous, light chestnut to dark brown. Leaf solitary, erect; contemporary leaf sheath exserted up to 90 mm, 1 mm diameter, glabrous, red at the base becoming green above; lamina narrowly lanceolate to elliptic, mucronate, up to 90 mm long and 23 mm wide, usually much smaller, dark green to glaucous on both surfaces, coriaceous, glabrous, dead brown leaves often persistent; margin sometimes red. Peduncular bract exserted up to 8 mm but usually nearer 3 mm and not obvious, ovate, attenuate, apex recurved, reddish. Peduncle up to 350 mm long, 1 mm diameter, basally red, bright green above. Raceme sub-spicate, usually secund, 50 mm long and 8 mm wide, with up to 20 flowers. Bracts cymbiforrn-deltate, 1.5 mm long, membranous, brown, with a dark midnerve. Pedicels 2-3 mm long. Flowers cyathiform, 8-9 mm diameter. Tepals subequal, white with a narrow green midnerve and fme red striations on the outer tepals towards the apex; outer tepals elliptic, slightly spreading, 4.5 mm long and 2 mm wide, inner broadly oblanceolate, 5 mm long and 3 mm wide. Filaments equal, adnate to the base of the tepals, narrowly rectangular, apiculate, 2 mm long and 0.5 mm wide, inner slightly longer than outer. Ovary globose 1.0-1.8 mm long and wide, white with red flecks. Style cylindrical, 1.8 mm long, white.
