Plant with hysteranthous leaves, solitary, inflorescence up to 320 mm high. Tuber irregularly-shaped, growing horizontally, up to 30 mm long and 20 mm diameter; skin thin, light brown, interior white; growing point lateral. Old leaf sheaths about 50 mm long and up to 12 mm wide, chestnut brown, membranous. Leaf solitary, suberect or almost prostrate; contemporary leaf sheath exserted up to 50 mm, 2 mm diameter, channelled near the lamina, almost glabrous or densely pubescent; lamina broadly ovate-cordate, acuminate, up to 90 mm wide and 90 mm from the apex to the leaf sheath, both surfaces light green, longitudinal veins prominent especially when dried, sparsely pubescent. Peduncular bract exserted about 25 mm, lower sheathing part pilose, reddish near ground level, upper 12 mm opening out to become green and leaflike, broadly ovate-cordate, margin ciliate. Peduncle 450 mm long, 3 mm diameter, glaucous green, glabrous. Raceme up to 100 mm long and 25 mm wide, compact, spike-like, with up to 70 flowers. Bracts triangular to ovate, 2 mm long, membranous, colourless. Pedicels up to 12 mm in flower but usually half that length, green, erecto-patent. Flowers cyathiform, 8-9 mm diameter, outer tepals opening out slightly more than inner, incurved at apices, with a distinctive scent. Tepals connate at the extreme base only, sub-equal, broadly spathulate, 5 mm long and 2 mm wide, white with a narrow green midnerve, sometimes overlaid with red streaking. Filaments erect, surrounding the ovary, sub-equal, adnate to the tepals for 1 mm at the base, broadly spathulate to obovate, apiculate, apically arched; inner 2 mm long and up to 1.5 mm wide, outer slightly narrower and longer, white; anthers 0.8 mm long, yellow. Ovary globose to ovoid, about 1.5 mm long and wide, green. Style cylindrical, 1.5 mm long, white.
