Plants with hysteranthous leaves, solitary, inflorescence up to 240 mm high. Tuber simple or compound, becoming irregularly lobed, up to 90 mm long and 40 mm wide; outer skin smoothish, light brown, interior tough, white; growing point basal to lateral with a shallow groove for the shoot. Old leaf sheaths up to 100 mm long, tough, fibrous. Leaf single from each growing point, prostrate; contemporary leaf sheath not exserted, glabrous, dark purple at ground level; lamina orbicular cordate, apiculate 80 mm long to the base of the lobes and about 70 mm wide, glaucous, punctate, glabrous, coriaceous; margin red, crisped. Peduncular bract sheathing part purple at ground level, white below, glabrous, often exserted about 10 mm; non-sheathing part large and leaflike, ovate-cordate, 42 mm long from apex to depression, up to 50 mm from apex to lobes and 35 mm wide. Peduncle up to 155 mm long and 2.5 mm diameter. Raceme dense, conical, obtuse, up to 35 mm long and 30 mm wide with 20-30 flowers, elongating as the fruit ripens to about 60 mm. Bracts triangular 1.5-2.0 mm long, slightly saccate, membranous with three maroon veins; margin crisped. Pedicels erecto-patent, lowermost 10-12 mm long, elongating in fruit to about 15 mm. Flowers rotate, up to 12 mm diameter, fully open only in the afternoon. Tepals sub-equal, connate at the extreme base only, yellowish-cream with maroon stippling on the outside and a greyish-green midnerve; outer tepals broadly lanceolate to spathulate, incurved at the apex, 5-6 mm long and 3 mm wide, inner elliptic with an extended base, apex incurved, 6-7 mm long and 3 mm wide. Filaments sub-equal, adnate to the base of the tepals, lanceolate up to 4 mm long, a little more than 1 mm wide, the inner slightly shorter and narrower, cream; anthers 1 mm long, yellow. Ovary etlipsoidal, 2 mm long and 1 mm diameter, green. Style cylindrical, 2 mm long, white or green.
