Plant with hysteranthous leaves, solitary, inflorescence up to 300 mm high. Tuber simple or occasionally compound, pyriform to irregularly cylindrical, up to 90 mm long and 50 mm diameter; skin tough, light brown, internally white; growing point basal with a lateral groove. Old leaf sheaths up to 130 mm long and 6 mm wide, membranous, spreading out and becoming coarsely fibrous and brush-like near the surface. Leaf solitary, erect; contemporary leaf sheath exserted up to 50 mm, 1 mm diameter, channelled on the upper side, green or dark reddish-brown, glabrous; lamina narrowly lanceolate, or orbicular-cordate, up to 120 mm long and 30 mm wide, or 55 mm from apex to lobes and 63 mm wide, apiculate, somewhat glaucous, coriaceous, glabrous, margin occasionally red. Peduncular bract exserted up to 25 mm, non-sheathing part ovate-cordate, up to 15 mm long and 12 mm wide, green, glabrous. Peduncle up to 180 mm long, 1.5 mm diameter, red at the base becoming light green above, glabrous. Raceme sub-corymbose to broadly cylindrical, up to 140 mm long and 80 mm wide, with about 50 flowers. Bracts minute to obsolete. Pedicels patent, lowest up to 40 mm long, upper much shorter. Flowers rotate, opening flat during the day and closing at night, up to 11 mm diameter. Tepals equal to sub-equal, elliptic to obovate, 4-5 mm long and 1.5-2.0 mm wide, shortly connate at the base, green to yellowish-green with a dark maroon midnerve on the outside. Filaments equal, erect, oblong, bifid at the apex, 2 mm long and 1.2 mm wide, yellow to bright orange; anther attached at the base of the bifurcation by a short connective; anthers orange. Ovary subglobose, about 1.5 mm diameter, green. Style 1.5 mm long, white.
