Plants with hysteranthous leaves, solitary, inflorescence up to 80 mm high. Tuber simple, sub-globose, up to 20 mm long, 40 mm wide, roots up to 50 mm long, without laterals, arising from the equatorial region; skin tough, brown, rough and warty, interior tough and white becoming yellowish with age; growing point apical, one or sometimes several per tuber. Old leaf sheaths up to 70 mm long and 3 mm diameter, light brown, thin, membranous. Leaf solitary, erect, seldom seen except on young tubers, contemporary leaf sheath not exserted; lamina acicular, up to 30 mm long and 1-3 mm wide, glaucous green, with a yellowish apiculate apex, glabrous. Peduncular bract exserted up to 3 mm, ovate, membranous. Peduncle up to 40 mm long and 1 mm diameter, straight or slightly kinked, glaucous green to maroon-coloured above ground. Raceme broadly cylindrical, to sub-corymbose, up to 60 mm long, 40 mm wide, with up to 30 flowers. Bracts triangular up to 2 mm long, brown, membranous. Pedicals either all about 25 mm long or from 18mm to about 3 mm distally, terete, glaucous, erecto-patent or arcuate, glabrous; peduncle and pedicels persistent and remaining green throughout the growing season. Flowers campanulate to spreading and partially recurved, up to 14 mm diameter. Tepals subequal, whitish with a green midnerve and varying amounts of longitudinal maroon streaks sometimes making flowers pink or maroon on the outside; outer ligulate up to 12 mm long, 2 mm wide, inner lanceolate, obtuse, up to 14 mm long and 3.5 mm wide. Filaments filiform to narrowly subulate, apiculate, 4-5 mm long, white. Ovary narrowly ovoid, 2.5 mm long and 1.5 mm wide, white. Style cylindrical 4-5 mm long, white.
